Welcome to the Great Sally Lockhart Read/Reread/Discussion Group!

Schedule is as follows:

January 9 - 31 -- Acquire (or find) the following three books (link to Amazon pages): The Ruby in the Smoke, The Shadow in the North, The Tiger in the Well, and (optional) The Tin Princess, all by Philip Pullman.

February 1 - Begin reading/discussion of The Ruby in the Smoke.

Whenever We Finish Up With That One - Begin reading/discussion of The Shadow in the North.

Ditto - And so forth.

Why should you join? I'LL TELL YOU WHY.

* Sally is a kick-ass feminist heroine who asks questions and then shoots (but oh baby, she shoots!).
* Philip Pullman (you may remember him from such books as The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass, aka "The Atheism Rocks, Ask Me How!" series) is a damn fine author. Despite personal feelings on his theology, you really can't deny that. Damn fine!
* Look at how cheap they are on Amazon! Seriously! Jeez!
* Topics addressed in the books contain: Victorian women's rights, Indian maharajahs and their magic rubies, photography, hot Irish gang members (hot girl Irish gang members!), hot socialist journalists, race/religion, impoverished but beautiful nobles, sketchy Scottish magicians, single motherhood, seedy opium dens.
* Yes, seedy opium dens. I'm not even kidding. Seedy opium dens WITH PLOT RELEVANCE. There is no part of that that isn't awesome.
* We're cool.
